So to continue Friday night... The girl from high school insisted that we hangout next time I am at Shakes, which will be soon knowing me. I think it would be interested to see her again...
So Saturday I wake up way tooooooo tired to want to go to work and work all day, but c'est le vive... I made espresso in the attempt to get my dragging ass going. Once at work i did my morning ritual of getting things together in the shop, because no one ever comes in the first 30 min. we are open, but not this day... I want to say her name is Karen, I know she is from Canada originally and has a 4 month old son who is such a cutie, well her and him came in only ten minutes after opening. When I went out front to greet her, I realized that a gentleman was looking through our clothes. He looks up at me and asks "are you the proprietor?"
-"Nope, just an employee"
-Do you buy, give store credit
-Yes sir, we do, cash or store credit (I of course said this in my "I am here for your every dying need" voice, because honestly I couldn't see this conversation going anywhere but.)
-Well, I just moved from KC.... blah blah blah
-Yes, we try to buy mainly vintage but will buy things that are in the style as well... blah blah blah
I helped Karen get a dress off the mannequin that I knew would be to big for her but she often buys items that are too small/big and alters them. So no prob. He continues.
-blah blah blah
-oh
-blah blah blah
-hmmm
After learning his age and blood type he asks if I was attending Mizzou.
-Nope, graduated last May.
-OH. In what?
-English
-So, you like to read.
-Why, yes!
The conversation turns into a who knows who of authors and recommendations, which I appreciate because I am not well read enough at almost 23... somehow I let slip out that I am an aspiring poet...
-Have you published?
-Nope
-Do you plan to?
-Yeah, sure.
-Do you not like people reading your stuff?
-Well.... I haven't wrote a poem worth my time in almost 3 years, but when if I start producing things that I like I won't mind the occasional reader and publication... (maybe I wasn't so eloquent at the time)
-I once went 6 years without writing. And then one day after journaling and collecting things from free flow, I was able to make something.
-OH MY GOD! YOU JUST GAVE ME HOPE!!!
The conversation died off from there since I was at work and customers were starting to file in. He said his goodbyes and "have a good day" s and was off.
I needed that.
So last night was a hoot!
After serious contemplation I came to realize that I needed to get off my ass and hangout with Audrey, whether or not it was at Eastside... So I hopped on my bike in the very rainy windy night and rode my ass downtown. Once to Eastside I was re-directed to McNallys so I popped my bike into the back room of the shop and headed that way. Once there I had a great time talking with people and drinking, ran into my ex who tried to be friendly but I just didn't care either way, since he is my EX, bought drinks for people and they for me, almost got blown over running to Kristy's car, Bevin called and got her kiss!!!, and then off we were to a party down west broadway.
The wind was crazy! The dancing inside was what I needed! The Evan Williams Andrew bought was gross... it was a damn good time! We stayed till the WEE hours and then I was dropped off to a very dark apartment building... I was confused at first at the weird emergency lights on and the lack of light from the normal fixtures.... I unlocked the door and tried to switch on the already "on" light and that is when it hit me... "we have no power" I called Tim (he was at his over night job) and we reminisced about the time in winter when we lost power and played poker by candle light... I had wished him there for the same experience but fine, whatever, work comes first... I passed out to the dark apartment, the howling wind and Rosemary never failing to find my hand to pet her.
It has been a good couple days. Sleeping better, most likely cause of booze, hanging out with people I love to see and having a damn good time... C'EST LE VIVE!
