Hmm. Anything that would be good enough to mend would make simple garments. Maybe not a wedding dress, but pretty much anything easy. My singer is really basic, and not the greatest machine out there, but it does the job (girls' clothes, quilts, I can even machine quilt on it).
I have an older portable black singer--not a "featherweight" but the next generation, most likely--it needs a new cord connection but otherwise you'd be welcome to it.
I don't have one yours, Bevin got it, but I still have an old machine that Penny gave me. This is actually for the shop, Jen wants to get a machine in the back room to keep mends coming in and out easily, rather than me dragging huge bags back and forth to my place. She doesn't want to spend a lot of money, and doesn't want it to be all computerized with settings that we wouldn't use (like 'make weeding dress' setting :)). So what do you think?
Mine is a Sonata made by Singer in Brazil, I believe. . . at least it was back in 1990 or so when I bought it. The fanciest accessory is that it zigzags, something I insisted I needed. New I think they run a little over $100. I will keep my eyes open and let Penny know we are seeking something simple.
