I am not trying to put on airs, like I am some perfect cell phone user (because watching others do these things I have realized my own mistakes, it's a wonder to step back), but really, can we reduce the annoyance? I only have a couple complaints.
First, answering your phone should not be accompanied with a bad pop song, or a drawn out repetitive melody. I hate normal ring tones, like landlines, but they are not nearly as annoying as all the others. I say, put the damn thing on vibrate when in public situations, especially in closed off spaces. This is really minor, I know, but if you cannot answer your phone in less than 6 seconds, then do not have the ringer on the highest, most annoying sound setting.
Second, if you plan to have an intimate conversation, with someone in person or someone on the phone, do not do it when you are sopping or at a restaurant with close seating. When people talk loud enough about private things that I can re-tell the whole story it is no longer a "I speak loudly" situation, it is a "I am all about me-me-me" situation. (I bow my head in shame for ever having done something like that.) So keep your private thoughts in a forum among friends, not strangers helping you look at jewelry while you spat out who is sleeping with who on your too expensive of a cell phone.
I had to rant about this. I also promise that I will keep my cell phone usage to appropriate times, mainly when alone or in my house.
