Some Vintage Clothing talk.... YUMMY

So recently I have purchased/received the best vintage clothing items, at least the best as of now.
Jen (ie owner of the boutique I work at) had me over for drinks a few weeks back, which was a fabulous time of looking at her fantastic stuff and burning CDs. While there she gave me a dress, as a sort of bonus, that she knew I would love. It is a 1940s black, knee length, short sleeve, dress (just imagine classic 40s dress up garb) and on the front, near the neckline, (and this is why she gave it to me) two silver beaded swallows. OH MY GOD, it is quite the piece.
But the two hats I've purchased, for very cheap, are what I am obsessing about. One is a winter white felt "Adolfo II New York Paris" with a plume and a studded paisley on the side. It's more of a cap and the side with the plume dips down a little further than the other, giving it a beautiful shape on the head. The plume was damaged at the end closes to the hat, so I sewed it down right where the crack was and it's fine now. Also it is missing some of the rhinestone studs, 2 actually, but when I have some time I plan to purchase some at a craft store.
The other hat is an ivory silk jacquard wrap/cloche/turban style hat. It no longer has it's tag, and it was slightly stained and needed areas of the fabric tacked down again. It was some what stiff, natural of vintage hats, they usually have a mesh layer that is stiff, but becomes limp when wet (what is that layer called?). I WOULD NEVER, EVER recommended what I did next but I soaked it. I wasn't too worried about ruining it, and I know how to treat jacquard fabric, however, I was slightly lazy and it was my first attempt of doing something like this. I soaked it over night on delicate cycle, then in the morning, because I didn't feel like putting it in clean water to rinse and then drip dry, I closed the lid and let the cycle finish... yikes. Later when I went to retrieve it, the hat had unraveled sort of, it mainly lost all of its stitches (mind you it was already falling apart). So, that night I stitched it back together, and wore it today. People loved it, so I am pretty happy with it.
So here are pictures of the 3 items, also, a few of the kitties. Burt is the black cat, Rosemary is the pretty one.

he is about 3 feet...

I can't believe your kitties. So cute. Rosemary looks like a faded out Jack.

Ian: totally screwed up. Went to New Orleans for the hurricane. Ashley could not be more mad. Oy.

raw artichoke

Don't know if that will help. Ian actually DOES know what to do with them. Hmm. I can't find the message he sent. If you steam them, I think they will do ok like canned ones do.

This has nothing to do with the pics, which are lovely, but is about another picture, a portrait really. It is Bridgett's header on her South City Musings Blog. It sooo sums up you. I love it and I think you should embrace it as well, sort of like you would a mole on your face that the bangs just don't quite hide:)
